This comes against the backdrop of two proposals for collection of fees being submitted to the fisheries department from the Velim panchayat and the Cutbona Boat Owners Development Union Society for the ensuing season.
Fisheries department has however given preference for the parking fee collection to the Union and in that regard, the fisheries director Dr Shamila Monteiro has written to the Union president seeking a revised amount pointing out that the finance (expenditure) department had disagreed with the Union’s proposed amount for collection of parking fees at Cutbona at Rs 1 lakh for two years.
Monteiro also reasoned that as the government is providing all the facilities at the jetty it is imperative that the government gets some revenue and in this case in the form of collection of parking fees.
The Union president Savio D’silva has stated that they will be discussion the letter from the fisheries department at their forthcoming meeting where they will decide on the future course of action.
