CANaCONA: Residents of Mastimol in Canacona have realised that having water connections doesn’t necessarily guarantee regular water supply and the promises of the government of ‘Har ghar jaal’ has only remained on paper.
With water for the last four summer at the doorsteps, citizens narrate as to how they have not received a single drop of days.
“Rather than improving, the situation is moving from bad to worse and is causing a lot of trouble to the working class,” says Ashok Gaonkard.
“Water is supplied from the Shristhal plant to the Shristhal and Canacona municipality area. Asali, Vaijwada, and Nuvem were affected too during the last month and supply was restored after a complaint was filed. However, the issue hasn’t been completely solved,” claims Punaji.
Canacona taluka is dependent on the Chapoli dam for its requirements however the water levels here have gone down drastically at the beginning of April itself. But officials have claimed there is enough water to cater to the needs of Canconkars.
About 5 MLD of water from bandhara at Ardhfond is diverted to Shristhal through a special pipeline. Despite arrangements in place, several places are facing water shortages. Citizens have demanded that authorities must state the exact reasons for the short supply of water.
