PANJIM: Valencio Fernandes emerged champion in the Loutolim village level rapid chess competition organized by Socio Cultural Club (SCC) and Loutolim Village Panchayat in collaboration with Salcete Taluka Chess Association, at village panchayat hall, Loutolim, recently.
Nishant Hegganavar and Saniton Navelkar finished second and third respectively.
Sidnoy Fernandes, Sanford Fernandes, Ruben Rodrigues, Doyal Alves, Adner Gomes, Rohit Naik, Pavinson Costa, Warren Fernandes, Meiben Fernandes, Myren Pacheco, Talent Fernandes, Aniket Gaonkar and Sanito Gomes secured fourth to 16th place respectively.
Amogh Namshiker was the chief arbiter assisted by Jaywant Hammanavar and Mitchelle Monteiro. Total, 47 students participated.
Prizes and certificates were awarded by chief guest Ashesh Keni, president, Salcete Taluka Chess Association; Dinesh Bandodkar, president, SCC; Maria Rodrigues, sarpanch, VP Loutolim); Mario Pereira, deputy sarpanch; Francisco Pascoal Vaz, vice-president, SCC; Mickky Sequeira, treasurer, SCC and Joaquim Gracias, joint secretary, SCC.
