PANJIM: Cruise boats, water sports, a marina and even a floating hotel could come up in the quiet Chapora river in Pernem, provided the government appointed feasibility committee gives a green signal. The feasibility report has to be submitted in six months starting February.
The state government has constituted River Chapora development committee under chairmanship of Captain of Ports James Braganza to study the feasibility of the river for tourism development. The proposal for development of the river was moved by the minister for port administration Laxmikant Parsekar.
The first meeting of the committee is scheduled on January 31. The committee has representatives from department like fisheries, water resources, tourism, finance and hydrology. Braganza told Herald that the basic idea behind the proposal was to develop the river, for tourist attraction. Like the river Mandovi, Chapora could have a potential to be developed for river tourism, he said.
River Chapora originates from a small Maharashtra village called Hajgoli near Belgaum and then flows through the Tillari Ghat and enters Goa
