PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday has reserved the order on the fate of the 130 bulls at the Goa Meat Complex for Thursday, even as the Advocate General and the lawyer for the petitioner said they would need time to study the Cattle Transport laws of Karnataka and Maharashtra before arguing on the petition filed by the meat traders.
The 130 bulls at the Goa Meat Complex were brought there for slaughter before the High Court imposed a ban on slaughter at the GMC.
On the petition of the meat traders asking to be permitted to bring in cattle from the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, which is crucial to the availability of beef in the State, the advocates representing both the State and the petitioner have sought time to study the cattle transport laws in the neighbouring states.
With no beef available in the state for three weeks, pressure is mounting on the government to ensure its availability. The Council for Social Justice and Peace has already in a strongly worded statement hit out at the government for its casual approach in dealing with the matter.
