VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Wednesday decided to issue final notice to vacate its premises in the municipal building occupied by several State and Central government departments.
The decision was taken as the MMC would soon kick start the long pending repairs and renovation work of the municipal building for which the tenders would be floated next week.
“Yes it is true that we would be issuing notice to vacate to all the offices operating from municipal building within a week’s time. Though we had issued similar notices in the past and the last one was served some six months ago, this would be the final notice served on them and we hope that the government officials would extend their cooperation and would vacate the premises within a month’s time,” MMC chairperson Deepak Naik said.
“We have received information that by next week the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) would float the tenders for ‘Repairs and Renovation’ work of the municipal building and within 45 days the work which is estimated to cost about 5 Crore would kick start,” Naik informed.
Naik said that the council would take advantage of the renovation work to recover all pending dues which many of the government offices have not paid since last several years.
The MMC chief said that on completion of the renovation work, the municipality would provide better amenities and facilities to the government offices occupying its premises on rent. Naik emphasised that the municipality would allow the government departments to reoccupy its premises only if they clear the pending rent dues.
