MARGAO: Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Chairman Prashant Naik on Friday expressed fears that if the circular dome of the bhavan is not replaced before the monsoons it will come down thereby paralysing the tiatr industry thriving in the Salcete Taluka.
Speaking to media persons, Naik said, “He has been raising the issue with the Art and Culture Minister every time they meet.”
“Within the next week I will meet the chief minister to explain to him how critical the situation is,” he added.
“The dome is damaged and is leaking. Many times the artistes on stage have to scurry for safe place where they can perform without water dripping on them,” he said.
Naik pointed out that Vijai Sardesai had got the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar to inspect the Ravindra Bhavan in 2017 and a road map was prepared to repair it.
“Replacement of the circular dome, installing of new toilets by addressing the seepage issue, replacing the pavers, were some of the issues that were identified for the repairs,” he said.
He also pointed out that the building next to Ravindra Bhavan which was supposed to have a studio and other facilities have not been used for eight years because there is a vigilance case on the building.
Naik, whose term is due to end in December this year, said, ”He did not mind if the government issues the order to replace the dome after his term is over.”
“What is important is that Ravindra Bhavan should continue to function and in three months the dome can be replaced,” he added.
