CALANGUTE: The taxi problems at Mopa Airport need to be sorted out soon so that tourists and others do not have to suffer, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said on Monday.
Referring to reports of travellers to South Goa from Mopa receiving taxi bills of over Rs 4,000 through the new taxi app and other issues, Lobo said these are teething problems with the airport, which is only a few days old.
“These are teething problems which should be addressed. Whenever anything new is introduced, there is always a complication and problem and it needs to be rectified. Now, GEL or whoever has done the app should look at this. The customers should not say ‘I came to Goa from Mumbai for Rs 2,500 and paid Rs 4,000 to reach home’,” he said.
“This should not be a bad memory for tourists and locals should also not suffer. Whatever needs to be done on this should be done on priority. The fares should not be so much,” the Calangute MLA said.
He also said taxi owners from North Goa and South Goa taxi associations met him recently about the airport fee issue which also needs to be sorted out.
“When they enter the airport gate, they have to buy a ticket which is valid for five minutes, during which they have to reach the terminal, load or unload luggage and reach the exit gate. If it crosses five minutes, then they have to pay Rs 500 extra. They should be given more time,” he said, pointing out that the extra charge will finally be passed on to the customers.
“These are all genuine issues which should be addressed,” he said.
