MARGAO: Justice U V Bakre of Goa Bench of Bombay High Court dismissed the appeal filed by accused Pundalik Bhagwant Bhandari, Sanvordem against his conviction by south Goa additional district and sessions Judge Vijaya D Pol.
Accused was held guilty for committing offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon and sentenced accused Bhandari to undergo 4 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 or in default to undergo six months additional RI which was challenged by the accused before High Cout Bench at Panjim. Special public prosecutor Mahesh Amonkar argued the matter before High Court and contended that there is no infirmity in trial court judgment, to uphold the sentence awarded by the trial court.
Accused Bhandari assaulted mines engineer Damodar Naik from Dhadem, Sanvordem with a sharp knife causing bleeding injury. The incident occurred on August 28, 2009, at 3.30 pm at Corranguini, Madel, Sanvorden. The victim was proceeding home on a two wheeler when he was restrained by the accused and assaulted. The accused also tried to shoot him with a pistol.
