VASCO: Mormugao Port Tourist Taxi Union has refuted allegations of harassment of tourists by the Union members.
Union members claimed that they collect charges as per the chart given to them by GTDC and also take feedback forms from tourists.
Addressing a press conference at Headland Sada on Sunday, Sanjay Kanoji stated that recently a rumour went viral that tourist taxi owners were harassing tourists by forcing them to take their cabs which, he said is not true.
Kanoji said that someone is playing mischief by making false complaints and baseless allegations against tourist taxi owners. He further added that they even take feedback from the tourists and customers.
Deepak Kavlekar, another member, questioned that if all tourists are taken by tours and travel buses, how they would survive.
He informed that some days ago in a joint meeting with tourist tax union and travel and tours buses, it was agreed that 60 percent of the tourists from passenger cruise would go to buses and 40 percent would go to tourist taxis. However, he claimed, travel and tour buses are not abiding by this understanding.
Kavlekar further mentioned that tourist taxis charge around Rs 3,000 per head for complete tour whereas the charges of the travel and tours buses is 6 times higher than the tourist taxis. He said that tourist taxis are the stakeholders of the Goa’s tourism industry and they want to earn their bread and butter by giving better services to their guests.
