PANJIM: Former Congress Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro reiterated that he is not interested in contesting the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha elections, as he is busy and overloaded with party work in the other states.
“I have always said no. I have a lot of responsibilities…Lots of work in Delhi…,” he told Herald in response to a question on the sidelines of a function on Monday.
The senior Congress leader was elevated as general secretary of AICC, mid 2013 and given charge of six north-eastern Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
“I have just finished with Mizoram election and now I’m preparing for the Arunachal Pradesh state election which will be followed by the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
Faleiro gained prominence within the Congress when the party won Karnataka elections for which he was appointed chairman of the central election committee. He also helped the party to come to power in the recently held general assembly elections in Mizoram when on the other hand, Congress faced humiliating defeat in the four major states.
Faleiro has been repeatedly saying that Mizoram has a better system of democracy, and Congress returned to power in the state by overcoming anti-incumbency.
For the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Faleiro’s name figured among the four probables for South Goa at the last week’s Goa Pradesh Congress Committee meeting. The three others are sitting MP Francisco Sardinha, Churchill Alemao and Ravi Naik – all former chief ministers.
Party sources say that Sardinha till date is the frontrunner given the Congress policy.
