Peter v. Shrinivas as Savio pulls out
* 2nd petition filed seeking disqualification against three candidates

Savio Messias withdrew from the contest for the post of president on the last date for withdrawals for GFA elections slated for October 24. Consequently, it will be a straight fight between Peter Vaz and Shrinivas Dempo. However, Savio will contest for the post of member from Mormugao Zone.
After Salcete candidate for the post of member Dionisio Sardinha filed a petition today seeking disqualification of another Salcete candidate Jaju Fernandes, a Panjim candidate, Edward Noronha, seeking election also for the post of member filed another petition seeking also the disqualification of all candidates who are ineligible to contest as they have failed to attend four consecutive meetings of the present Executive Committee (2007-10).
Those who have failed to attend four consecutive meetings and are seeking election are Shrinivas Dempo (for the post of president), Jaju Fernandes and Angelo Albuquerque (members).
Edward stated they had failed to attend four successive meetings of the current Executive Committee and that as per the old constitution’s Articles 10.1 (b) and 10.3 the member stood disqualified automatically and consequently ineligible for any post in the association subsequently.
As per Article 10.1 (b), an elected person shall cease to hold the office if he/she fails to attend four consecutive ordinary meetings of the Executive Committee. Article 10.3, states, “A person who ceases to hold the post under Article 10.1 (b), shall never again be eligible to seek election to the post in the Association subsequently.”
Both petitions have been submitted to the Returning Officer, who will be the final authority to decide on the same.
