PANJIM: Owing to an increase in the use of unauthorized drones/ unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in the State that could be a potential risk to public safety and privacy, Goa Police successfully tested a new solution that can track live the current locations of drone. The new system would also share the exact location of the flying pilot and store this data for investigation.
The solution tested with ATS members under supervision of SP Karthik Kashyap, is portable and operates up to a 5 km range. “It can also be used to provide added safety to VVIP movements and events. Goa Police has already used drones to identity 40 protesters in the past trying to create a ruckus. This new system will put a hold on unauthorized and unsafe use of drones and add safety and privacy to visiting tourists,” Kashyap said in a statement on Thursday.
In view of threats to security, the foreigners’ regional registration office (FRRO) of Goa Police had prohibited the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) or drones for civil purposes in the State. According to a media report the airspace of many Indian cities has a high density of manned aircraft traffic.
, and that UAS, which lack regulation and operating procedures, could cause air collision and accidents. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has also not yet published standards and recommended practices (SARPs) for the civil use of UAS.
