BENAULIM: Varca SC blanked St Anthony SC, Colva 2-0 to lift the Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup organised by St.Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim, at Sao Joao Baptist ground, on Sunday.
Varca’s Jhonus D’Costa had the first best chance of the match in the 8th minute but the latter’s shot failed to land into Colva’s net.
At the other end, Colva’s Maxon Fernandes’ long ranger missed the Varca net by a whisker in the 12th minute.
In the second half, Colva’s Baptist Fernandes’ shot was saved by Varca keeper Mohammed Shaikh in the 38th minute.
Varca’s Jhonus D’Costa opened the score-line in the 46th minute with a glancing header.
Four minutes later, Nash Pereira’s power-packed shot made it 2-0 for Varca. Colva’s Fanslam Correia’s shot was denied by rival post.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Churchill Alemao, MLA of Benaulim constituency was the chief guest. Delia Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Benaulim gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries and club officials.
