He was elevated for his shrewd strategy that won the BJP a windfall in Uttar Pradesh. Shah who took over after Home Minister Rajnath Singh stepped down from the post, scripted history by becoming the youngest chief since the party’s inception.
At a function to celebrate his elevation, BJP Goa unit President Vinay Tendulkar said they have much to learn from Shah and strengthen the party under his leadership. “We are planning to invite him to Goa and a decision in this regard will be taken during our meeting in another two-to-three days,” he told Herald.
“His extraordinary political performance in Uttar Pradesh as BJP’s general secretary in-charge, led the party to securing 71 of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in that state.”
We are looking forward to work with him and strengthen our party,” he further said.
Shah,(50), is PM Narendra Modi’s closest confidante. He was elevated to the post after speculation that he will be named as party chief to repeat UP’s victory in the forthcoming Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the party took a jibe at Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane over bribery charges against him. “If I was in his place, I would have immediately resigned and faced charges,” Tendulkar said.
The party is however not demanding that he step down.
