PONDA: Ponda Police has booked an offence against a non-resident Goan Savio Rodrigues on charges of posting a morphed photo of PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar on a social networking site. In his complaint to Ponda police, Pradeep Vaman Bakhale of Dhavali-Ponda stated that the accused had published offensive messages on Facebook, which were grossly offensive and demeaning to the character of Dhavlikar. Bakhale also stated that the accused had also superimposed the minister’s face on a woman in a bikini, thereby insulting the minister and defaming his image. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 66–A and 67 of IT Act and has forwarded the case to the Police Cyber Cell for further investigation.
Savio in a video message to the Herald said there are serious attempts being made to curb the freedom of speech and expression in Goa and voices raised against the government are being dealt with an iron hand.
While pointing out a “total collapse” of the home department under Manohar Parrikar, Savio wondered why the police did not show any interest in far more serious cases which have shamed the State and humanity.
Savio referred to the recent ghastly Camurlim incident which was exposed by the Herald, besides the Pramod Muthalik issue where a complaint had been lodged and several voices raised against the Ram Sene chief.
Savio urged the PWD Minister to act responsibly towards Goans “and stop making senseless statements” that go against the interest of the State.
