OLD GOA: Two persons were arrested by Old Goa police at Merces on Friday night on charges of accepting bets for an IPL cricket match.
According to police reports, the incident took place at about 10.30 pm near the Hoble garage at Sakina Manzil, Merces, when three persons, Saifulla Hassai Bella (35) of Taleigao, Salim Hazarat Dukander of Shanti Nagar in Socorro and the unidentified owner of the premises were reportedly involved in gambling activities in a closed room.
Police said that Bella and Dukander were caught red-handed while gambling and accepting bets for the IPL cricket match between CSK and Kings XI Punjab by using a computer and mobile phones. Police seized cash of Rs 50,160, a laptop, eight mobiles, TV sets, a set top box and others articles. The police has registered an offence under Sections 420 r/w 34 IPC, Section 3 and 4 of GDDPG Act and Section 66 (a), 66 (d) of IT Act and is investigating the case.
