Positivity rate remains above 30 per cent

PANJIM: Despite reporting a slight rise in daily COVID-19 cases with 1,625 new patients getting infected, the positivity rate dropped to 32 per cent on Friday. As the number of patients, declared cured and discharged, outnumbered new cases, the recovery rate improved further and touched almost 85 per cent.

On Thursday the State had recorded 1582 new patients at a positivity rate of 34.53 per cent. While around 50 more cases were reported in the last 24-hrours, the positivity rate declined by two per cent. 

On May 18, the positivity rate was at 34 per cent while on May 17 it was at 36 per cent. On May 19, the positivity rate dropped to 31 per cent and went up again to 34 per cent on May 20.

As per the bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 5063 samples tested, 1625 have been detected with COVID. 

With 1,625 new patients, the total coronavirus caseload has reached 1,43,192.

The recoveries continued to be on higher side with 3075 patients getting discharged. As on date, 84.89 per cent of the total patients have recovered, that is 1,21,562. As such, the total active case tally further dropped and stood at 19,328.

The COVID fatalities also reported a decline though 30 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 2302. On Thursday, 44 people had lost their lives. 

Of the total 30, 11 died in South District Hospital and nine in Goa Medical college and hospital. Four deaths each were reported in private hospitals in North and South Goa. Also, one death each was reported at ESI hospital Margao and PHC Curtorim.

Directorate of Health Services has vaccinated 68 prisoners in the age group of 45 years and above, at Colvale Jail while the other prisoners in the age group of 18-44 years will be considered in the next drive.
