Traditional Goan furniture makers have urged the state government to introduce subsidies and rebates to support local carpenters and protect the region’s traditional craftsmanship. The All Goa Carpenters Association has appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for financial assistance and discounted stall rates at fairs. The association also sought reduced stall fees for the Saptah Fair in Vasco and other festivals across Goa. It said lower charges and government support would help carpenters sustain their businesses, encourage traditional furniture-making and preserve Goa’s indigenous craftsmanship for future generations.
