Cops told to file separate FIRs in Kamakshi fraud

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of Goa Police to register separate First Information Reports (FIR) on over 500 complaints in the multi-crore Kamakshi Forex fraud.

The Division Bench comprising Justices F M Reis and Nutan Sardessai also asked the investigation team to submit a status report of the investigation carried out within three weeks.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Aires Rodrigues, representing one Selvino Gonsalves, a Varca seaman, who was duped to the tune of over Rs 12 lakh. The lawyer alleged that the police were hand in glove with the prime accused Nilesh Raikar. The Margao resident is accused of duping investors to a tune of over Rs 55 crore.
He also submitted to the court that the Goa Police was dragging its feet while conducting only a superficial probe into the scam.
