CANACONA: In a significant move, the South Goa District Magistrate has notified as many as 21 parking spaces and two zones at Chaudi as ‘No Parking’ areas for different type of vehicles within the Canacona municipality.
According to CMC Chairperson Mahadev Dessai, the inspections by authorities were done over a considerable period of time, before demarcating the parking and no-parking spaces.
“The file was collecting dust, till I got the files revived and the collector finally issued the notification, which will be published in the next issue of the government gazette,” said Dessai.
In a notification, the District Magistrate N D Agrawal notified signages in Chaudi, Canacona and directed that it is mandatory on the part of authorities to install cautionary stands demarcating the location of the signboards for visibility of road users and to regulate vehicular traffic.
Some of the prominent places at Chaudi town notified for traffic signages for parking of four-wheelers include the open area in front of Martins Arcade, in front of Devyani Raikar Bldg, Royal building, Mangalvan Bldg, in front of Royal building and Mangalwan Bldg, in front of Goa Bhagyatdar, in front of IDSMT Project Bldg, opposite the Municipal Garden and adjacent to the old bus stand.
The parking lot for two-wheelers will be in front and between Martins Arcade and Devyani Raikar buildings, in front of Hotel Garuda, in front of SBI Bank, in front of Prabhu Desai building, in front and the left side of Goa Bhagyatdar building, in front of the municipal building, in front of Prabhu building, on the left hand side of Mohan Vernekar building and open space at old bus stand.
The open space in front of Mohan Vernekar building facing Goa Bhagyatdar is earmarked for parking of carriage rickshaw and parts of open space at the bus stand will be demarcated for parking of auto rickshaws, tempos/pickups and a motorcycle taxi stand.
The areas on both the sides of the road (which incidentally is the NH17 road) from Martins Arcade to KTC bus stand and both sides of the road leading (from Chaudi to Ponsulem) from Prabhu Building to IDSMT Project/Municipality building are earmarked as ‘No Parking’ zones.
