Local police intelligence units claim to have managed to gather
inputs that these gangs live in the State, with their families. To
buttress this, they point out to North district’s SIT headed by
inspector Jivba Dalvi and Crime Branch’s anti-burglary cell led
by inspector Sandesh Chodankar having solved 20 cases. However, experts
feel that the police resort to this after they are unable to crack cases. And
after catching one suspect all the unsolved cases with the approximate
same modus operandi are put under his name. There is a photo op and the
“detected” column in the crime chart rises.
But the records show and will show in future
that there is no let-up in these type of incidents
even after the so called breakthroughs.
The police have a track record of this and
the subsequent acquittals in many such cases
including in the infamous Mahanand case where
one person was accused in at least 18 crimes
against women including rape and murder and
has subsequently been already cleared in 8.
With criminals living and working among
us, the challenge is harder. And as the sun rises
after yet another night of crime, the criminal gets
ready for yet another normal working day.
