Shantaram’s no to Naval enclave at Mopa

PANJIM: Objecting to handing over land at the proposed Mopa airport to the Indian Navy, Congress on Friday alleged that the BJP-led government has put Goa’s land on sale, with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar playing an important role in the matter.

Addressing media persons, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Shantaram Naik said that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has no say in the sale of State land, with deals being done in Delhi at the behest of Parrikar. “Parrikar is playing an important role to the detriment of Goa’s interest,” he said.
Stating that after failing to grab land at Naquerim in Quepem in the name of DefExpo, Naik said that Parrikar is now trying to hand over land to the Defence at the proposed Greenfield international airport at Mopa.
“Indian Navy shouldn’t be given land at the proposed airport at Mopa. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has once again played a treacherous game against Goa’s interest,” Naik said.
