MARGAO: Even as the BJP government highlights not leaving any work incomplete, the Comba areas of Margao have been neglected and almost abandoned, especially where the quality of roads is concerned. It may surprise many to learn that for the past long six years the roads have not been tarred.
Ketan Kurtarkar, Councillor of Ward 13 in Comba, Margao has displayed concern to the cause and has written to the PWD officials to initiate hot mixing of roads on several occasions. However, nothings seems to have been done so far.
The six-year delay has angered Combkars, as there are pits, potholes and broken roads segments everywhere. In fact, the condition of the road has gone from bad to worse during every subsequent rainy season resulting, where several minor accidents have been witnessed.
I approached the PWD on several occasions regarding the present status of the road, but each time the PWD gave me various excuses including that the sewerage network was yet to be completed.
The councillor also revealed that a reply to an RTI application revealed that six years ago the work order for the road tarring was issued and the work of Rs 1.11 crores was to be executed. However, the work was not undertaken for reasons best known to the PWD.
The councillor has warned that if the tender for the work was not issued within a month, residents of Comba would hold a ‘dharna’ at the PWD office at Fatorda.
The councillor said if any accident took place on this stretch of the road, the PWD would be held responsible.
