Colvale Police Arrest Man for Rape Under False Promise of Marriage

Colvale Police have arrested a man residing in the Nanora area of North Goa on serious charges of rape, following allegations that he engaged in sexual relations with a woman under the false pretext of marrying her.

According to police officials, the case originated in Maharashtra, where the complainant — a woman from Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district — approached Bicholim Police in Goa to lodge her grievance. After registering her statement, Bicholim Police filed a Zero FIR, a provision that allows the immediate registration of a complaint regardless of jurisdiction, ensuring no delay in the investigation process. The case was then transferred to Colvale Police Station, which holds territorial jurisdiction over the incident.

The woman has alleged that the accused established a relationship with her and repeatedly engaged in sexual intercourse, assuring her that they would eventually marry. However, she claims the promise was never genuine and that the accused had no real intention of fulfilling it. Once she realized the deception, she decided to approach the police.

Following preliminary inquiries and corroboration of the allegations, Colvale Police apprehended the accused. He is currently in custody and is expected to be produced before a judicial magistrate for remand.

Authorities have stated that the investigation will focus on gathering further evidence, including digital communication records and witness statements, to strengthen the prosecution’s case.

Police have also urged people to be vigilant in such matters and to seek timely legal help in cases of exploitation.
