PANJIM: Three companies have submitted bids to set up the proposed solid waste management (SWM) facility at Bainguinim, near Old Goa.
Bids have been submitted by Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited; Maaviya Engineering Consultants Private Limited and the Three R Management Private Limited.

Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) managing director Levinson Martins said that the scrutiny of these bids is going to see if the companies are technically qualified. After the technical evaluation, the government will ask the companies to submit request for proposal to set up SWM plant to treat 250 tonnes of waste per day, he said.
The State government has acquired 1.72 lakh square metres of land at Bainguinim to set up the SWM facility. However, of this only 70,000 square metres of land are available for use as there were two quarries within the acquired area.
The Bainguinim SWM facility had already been granted environmental clearance (EC) by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).
The proposed SWM facility at Bainguinim has also faced opposition from the Bainguinim and Old Goa villagers who had earlier appealed to the government to shift the proposed facility to another location as the proposed site was in close proximity of world heritage site at Old Goa.
