MARGAO: Admitting that he has deliberately stopped speaking against the government since the last two months, Independent MLA Vijai Sardessai on Friday said the Congress should put its act together and should know that it cannot outsource its Opposition duties to someone else.
“My silence is intentional. I am not a bonded labour of anyone that only I should speak against the government and the Opposition keeps quiet. Today, the Congress cannot get a president. Has the Congress party learnt any lesson from its defeat in the hustings. If they haven’t learnt, do they deserve to come back,” Vijai told the media, after he accompanied Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to the Fatorda junction during his visit to the constituency.
He said the Congress should first put its act together, but asserted that he is part of the Opposition and will raise 100 questions in the coming six-day Assembly session in the interest of Goa and Goans.
“I don’t know whether the Congress has learnt anything till date. We would like to know whether their Lok Sabha candidate would work in the interest of the people or would help Maharashtra by demanding Mopa. Why should I target the ruling dispensation and allow the principal Opposition party to reap the benefits,” he asked, reminding “when I raked up the Mopa airport issue, the Congress made light of the issue. But, today, they are changing their stance saying Mopa can be kept on hold.”
