CUNCOLIM: Agitated traders of Cuncolim gheraoed newly elected Chairperson Angela Paiginkar and Vice Chairperson Videsh Dessai and demanded to issue their renewed trade licences.
Under the banner of Cuncolim Traders Association, the traders also handed over a memorandum to Chairperson Paiginkar listing various other demands.
The traders told chairperson that they had paid trade licence renewal fees long back. Unfortunately, Cuncolim Municipal Council has not handed over them the licences saying that they had not paid the garbage fees.
The traders are not ready to pay the garbage fees as the council has imposed more fees and demanded to reduce the same.
The traders’ argument is that there should be no link between fees and licences, but the council officers say since traders are the defaulters their trade licence is hold up.
After discussing with the traders, Vice Chairperson Dessai assured them to find out a solution to their demand. Dessai told them that the council will discuss this issue and will study it properly and after appointment of full-fledged chief officer they will call a joint meeting of the traders to a get solution for garbage fees.
The agitated traders agreed with vice chairperson’s suggestion to wait till the next meet.
