MARGAO, MAY 30
The Paroda gram sabha on Sunday demanded that the government immediately replace the old power lines with new conductors in the village.
At the meeting held on Sunday, the members expressed concern over increasing incidents of old power conductors snapping due to wear and tear and asked the Panchayat to take up the matter with the government on a priority basis.
The gram sabha members also took strong exception to roadside digging by various agencies, without taking the Panchayat into confidence. Members contended that the contractors leave the trenches half-filled, resulting in road accidents.
The Sarpanch Sharmila Vaz said the Panchayat would take up the issue with the authorities, including BSNL to take the Panchayat into confidence before taking up the works.
She said the meeting deliberated on development works to be taken up by the Panchayat, including the hot-mixing of all internal roads. She said the development works would be taken up partly out of the ZP funds and from the funds earmarked under the 12th Finance Commission. ZP Member Seema Dias was present for today’s meeting.
The Sarpanch informed that members demanded that the irrigation canal laid more than 15 years ago be extended inside the village for irrigating the fields. “The members have asked for the canal water from the irrigation project. The panchayat would write to the government in this respect”, she added.
Gram sabha members also demanded that the Panchayat hold minimum of two health camps in the village for the benefit of the villagers.
On the implementation of various Panchayat schemes, the Sarpanch assured the members that schemes would be implemented once the authorities appoint the gram sevak for the village.
