MARGAO: The Haj Committee on Monday condemned the Congress for baselessly criticising the BJP government for allegedly having cancelled the embarkation point for Haj Pilgrimage at Dabolim Airport.
Vice President of Haj Committee of India and Goa Haj Committee President Shaikh Jina said that not just Goa but 11 other embarkation points in India have been cancelled due to the reduced quota from India for Haj Pilgrimage.
Jina said that they had tried a lot to get 200 application forms of people wishing to go for Haj Pilgrimage. However, for the last three years, there are not enough persons willing to go to Haj through their channel.
“Saudi Arabia has given only 35, 000 people quota of Hajis in India. The issue being raked up by the people who don’t know anything about the same,” underlined Jina.
“We had 21 embarkation points in India and only 10 have been kept now and rest have been cancelled. The embarkation points of States which have 7, 000 and 8,000 Haj pilgrims too have been cancelled. If Goa gets 200 application forms of Haj pilgrims we could have put up a case before the Union Minorities Minister,” said Jina.
“December 10 is the last date for filing of application forms and till today we have not received even one form. I request the persons criticising the government to go and meet the people and convince them to fill the forms to have the desired number of Hajis,” he added.
