MARGAO: Carmona Sports Club rallied to hold Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda to a 2-2 draw in Salcete Zone GFA Second Division League football at Curtorim ground, Thursday. All the goals came in the first half.

Carmona took the lead in the eighth minute when Desmond Fernandes made no mistake in converting the spot kick awarded by referee Melwyn after their striker Faslinger Fernandes was brought down by rival defender Patricio Lima inside the penalty area.

However, their joy was shortlived as in the 15th minute striker Ramchandra Gaunkar picked the ball from his own half, dribbled past a couple of defenders and slotted past the rival goalkeeper to put his team on equal terms.

Stunned by the equalizer, Carmaona intensified their attacks and nearly found the equalizer but Desmond’s rasping shot missed the mark narrowly.

Fr Agnelo enjoyed a brief spell of lion’s share of ball possession and took the lead in the 21st minute when Ramchanrda beat Carmona goalkeeper Johnson Bhagat with snap shot off a pass from Francisco Alfonso.

Stunned by the setback, Carmona launched attacks and striker Fasliinger restored parity in the 28th minute when he slotted past Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club goalkeeper Antonio Dias off a pass from Vilroy D’Cruz.

Fr Agnelo had a golden chance to make it 3-2 but striker Francisco’s rasping shot was blocked by Carmona goalkeeper Johnosn.

Post resumption, Fr Agnelo put up a better performances and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Ramachanrda, who was the fulcrum in the Fr Agnelo attacks, harassed the rival defenders with sharp raids.

In the 61st minute, Fr Agnelo muffed a golden opportunity when striker Ramachanrda was tripped from behind by rival defender Orvil Matos inside the penalty box and referee awarded the spot kick. Ramachandra himself took the resultant spot kick but shot wide.

With time running out, Carmona had a golden opportunity to wrap up the match but Desmond failed to take advantage of a fumble by the rival goalkeeper.

On the other end, Fr Agnelo could have scored the match-winner but Patrick Lima shot wide from close range.

With this draw, Carmona collected two points from two matches while Fr Agnelo are on one point from one match.

Our Mapusa correspondent adds — Sangolda Lightning Club grounded Saligao Sports Club 3-1 in a GFA Second Division football league match at Sangolda ground, Thursday. All the goals were scored in the first half.

Sangolda got off to a dream start when they surged ahead in the ninth minute after Loyed Mascarenhas’ adroit placement beat the rival goalkeeper.

Saligao continued to struggle and two minutes later, Yogesh Mayekar added to their misery when he doubled the lead for Sangolda.

Sangolda’s Nitin Naik made it 3-0 in the 14th minute when his powerful shot went past the rival custodian.

Saligao pulled one back in the 38th minute through Ajay Divadkar.

After the restart, Sangolda continued to dominate and their defenders stood rock solid, keeping the rival strikers at bay.
