Leader of the Opposition Pratapsing Rane, speaking to Herald, said that summoning doesn’t mean a person is involved in the case, “I don’t think he is involved,” Rane said.
He added that Congress has been demanding that the case be handed over to CBI as CB may be easily influenced by the government.
“I am not saying I don’t have faith in Crime Branch but they don’t have the machinery and the experts to investigate this case. They are simply inquiring and spoiling the name of the people,” Rane said.
Congress Legislature Party spokesperson Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco asked why the government is only inquiring into the JICA project and not all projects awarded to Louis Berger.
Lourenco, defending Kamat, claimed that anybody can say that money has been paid, but it is up to the investigating agency to prove whether there has been any transaction.
“We want the investigation to be handed over to CBI, and not only one case be investigated but all the cases during the last three years in which BJP MLAs and ministers are involved,” Lourenco said.
Goa Pradesh Congress committee president Luizinho Faleiro has not yet spoken on the issue, but GPCC general secretary Sunil Kawathankar said the party is firm on its stand that anybody found guilty should be punished.
“The party has discussed the issue with Kamat and he has informed us that there is no transaction of cash from the said company and he is ready to face any investigation,” Kawthankar said.
Congress also demands a fair probe in the matter and all projects which have been awarded to the company be investigated.
