MARGAO: The mortal remains of noted Konkani tiatrist Luciano Dias were laid to rest at the Raia cemetery, as people from all walks of life, including tiatrists, tiatr lovers bid adieus to the great Konkani stage artiste on Saturday.
Tiatrists paid rich tributes to the departed soul for his immense contribution to Tiatr spanning around five decades. President of Tiatr Academy of Goa Prince Jacob said that gloom has descended on the tiatr fraternity following the demise of Luciano. “He was a pillar of Konkani stage. We are all sad as he is no more. The very presence of Luciano used to give a big boost to a tiatr. He was known for signing the first song at a tiatr,” recalled Jacob.
Noted Konkani writer and Tiatrist Tomazinho Cardozo said Luciano was one of the greatest artists of the Konkani tiatr stage. “For 50 years, he served tiatr and Konkani stage with dedication. He tried to raise the standard of tiatr and songs. His demise is a loss to the Konkani stage,” Cardozo said.
Tiatrist Anil Kumar also paid rich tributes to the departed soul. “We cannot forget Luciano’s rich contribution towards the Konkani stage. He and his brother Aristedes used to keep the audience spell bound with their duets,” Anil Kumar said.
At the Eucharistic celebrations at the Our Lady of Livrament Chapel, Arlem, Fr Valmiki Dias, in his homily, recalled the good work done by Luciano and said that God would give him a bigger reward in heaven.
Incidentally, Luciano, who died on August 1 after a brief illness, was to receive the Goa Cultural Award for lifetime contribution to the Konkani stage on August 4.
