PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is ailing with pancreatic cancer for the last one year, was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Saturday night.
“Chief Minister taken to Goa Medical College for upper GI endoscopy. His health condition continues to be stable,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has said in a statement released. CMO has said that Parrikar would be kept under observation for around 48 hours at GMC.
Parrikar was brought by ambulance to the hospital and is currently kept in an isolated ward. A strong police force has been kept outside the GMC.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and St Cruz Congress MLA Tony Fernandes visited Parrikar in the hospital.
Speaking to media persons after the visit, Rane said that Parrikar is absolutely fine and has been kept under observation. “He is fine and there is nothing to worry or speculate,” Rane said. “He was brought to hospital as doctors wanted to conduct some tests. He is fine and will be discharged either on tomorrow (Sunday) evening or day after (Monday),” Rane said.
The Minister said that Parrikar spoke to him and he has asked him to go home. “CM is a fighter,” he commented.
Reliable sources confirmed that Parrikar was shifted to GMC as the ventilators at home failed. “Just as an emergency in case the need arises he was shifted. No life support as of now,” sources said, while failing to rule out that the need won’t arise in next few hours as his pulse rate also reduced.
On Friday night, the CM’s condition had deteriorated following which a team of doctors was rushed to his private residence, where he was undergoing treatment.
Before that in the morning, the CMO had said that Parrikar held meeting with secretary Ashok Kumar and cleared various developmental works.
Parrikar has been ailing for the last one year and has been in and out of hospitals in Mumbai, Goa, Delhi and the USA.
