“We feel that that the State is slowly progressing towards the Taliban way, due to the fascists forces mushrooming up suddenly since BJP government has come to power at the Center,” a press statement issued by the party spokesman Durgadas Kamat reads.
The party said it firmly stands behind the tiatr director Tousif de Navelim and the entire tiatr fraternity in this hour of need. “We shall not allow any muzzling of freedom of expression in the State. Tousif had filed the complaint of threats but there is no action. This raises concern whether the saffron government in Goa is promoting such forces which are keen on destroying the peace and social harmony in the State,” Kamat said.
Kamat also pointed to the silence of Environment Minister Alina Saldanha, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and many others in the ruling coalition. “This raises concern whether they are censored from objecting to these fascists forces,” the press release states.
The press communique went on to add that Ram Sena Organising Secretary Gangadhar Kulkarni’s statement, “We have started our underground activity in Goa. The primary work of starting the organization is presently underway in the state. Once the process is completed, we will soon announce the launch” shows such organizations have blessings of the government or else they wouldn’t have guts to make such open statements.
