Driver convicted for causing death of girl due to rash driving

SANGUEM: The Judicial Magistrate First Class at Sanguem, Sunita Gaunekar, convicted Ayub Ali Maddehalli, a resident of Karwar Karnataka , for offences under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 IPC (rash and negligent driving).
In an accident that occurred on September 10, 2016, while proceeding from Anmod Ghat towards Molem direction with his Tata tipper truck, Maddehalli dashed his vehicle against a Santro car. A six-year-old girl Ridhhi Shirodkar, a resident of Gogol Margao, who was travelling in the car, was grievously injured in the incident. The incident occurred at Nadren Molem. 
The victim girl later succumbed to her injuries at Primary Health Centre at Darbandora. 
Immediately after getting the information, Collem Police led by ASI Manohar B Patil rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama at the site of the incident and also arrested Maddehalli under Section 304A and 279 of IPC and filed the charge-sheet against him in the Sanguem Court.
The prosecution led by APP Sanford W Fernandes examined seven witnesses, including the ASI Manohar B Patil. 
After going through the investigation and material on record, the judge convicted Maddehalli and directed him to pay Rs 25,000 to the heirs of the victim girl within a period of two months and in default to undergo six months simple imprisonment under Section 304A of IPC. He was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 1000 under section 279 and in default to undergo simple imprisonment of one month.
