CANACONA: As many as 260 poll officials and 104 policemen will handle 52 polling stations in Canacona constituency for the Lok Sabha polls on April 12.
According to Assistant Returning Officer Sudhin Natu, each of the 52 polling booths in Canacona constituency will be manned by five poll officials including the presiding officer and two policemen to ensure smooth and orderly conduct of voting.
Incidentally, while most of the polling stations are spread across the taluka from Agonda, only Loliem-Polem and hilly terrains of Gaondongrim and Cotigao are handicapped friendly, while others are not equipped with a ramp, informed ARO sources.
“However, an assistant equipped with a chair will be made available at each of the polling stations to help the aged and handicapped,” added the source.
Besides, 364 polling officers manning the polling booth, there will be different section officers and subordinates and observers overlooking the smooth conduct of polls. Sufficient number of policemen to maintain law and order in and around the polling booths, especially to maintain the 200 metres line, will be deputed to the respective polling stations, informed sources.
Presently, pandals are being erected in most of the polling stations. In all, 32,400 voters are eligible to vote in the Lok Sabha elections from Canacona assembly segment.
