CURCHOREM: The meeting convened by Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) to decide on common pounds for stray cattle and dogs for the Sanguem, Curchorem and Sanvordem constituency was held at Ravindra Bhavan conference room on Wednesday.
To control the menace of stray cattle and dogs , CCMC called for the meeting which was attended by Power Minister and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) Rumaldo, CCMC Chairperson Felix Fernandes, Kalay Sarpanch Kishor Dessai, Uguem Sarpanch Sanjay Parwar, Neturlim Sarpanch RajanGaonkar, Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. S.V. Dessai, Assistant Directors Dr. V. M. Naik and Dr. Veena Kumar, P.S to Sanvordem MLA ShivanandDessai and Swati Shilker of Dhyan Foundation.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting Cabral said in order to control the growing menace of stray cattle and dogs on public roads, it was suggested to have a common pound for the Sanguem, Sanvordem and Sanguem constituencies which could be constructed under Animal Husbandry Scheme. “The land of around 2 lakh square meters situated under the jurisdiction of Kalay panchayat and owned by Sanguem Municipality has been identified for the project.” said Cabral and informed that all the seventeen-panchayats including two municipalities from the three constituencies asked to take the resolutions for the project making Sanguem Municipality and Dhyan Foundation as nodal agency.
It is often found that stray cattle sitting on the middle of the roads obstructing the free movement of traffic particularly at night endangering the lives of the commuters including pedestrians as they are unable to see the them at night.
