PANJIM: Goan Football Club defeated Candolim Sports Club 2-0, in Goa Football Association’s U-16 League match played at Candolim ground, on Thursday.
Rayan Menezes (35’) and Leewan Castanha (67’) netted a goal each for the winners. The scores were 1-0 at half-time.
Goan FC and Candolim SC restricted to midfield play initially in the game and tried to make their moves past the rival defenders.
However it was Goan FC who found the breakthrough in the first session as Rayan Menezes swept home a well measured cross by his teammate from the flanks.
Post resumption, the Candolim side tried to make amends for their mistakes and came up with a plethora of moves but were unable to score as Goan FC defended resolutely to keep the rivals at bay.
It was in the 67th minute that the Candolim side were caught out as the Goan FC came up with a deadly counter attack and scored through Leewan Castanha to make it 2-0.
Candolim SC kept their hunt for goals on but were unsuccessful.
In another match at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Panjim, Eagles Sports Club humbled Don Bosco Oratory 8-0,
The winners led 6-0 at break.
Eagles SC scored through Sahil Jalmi (9’, 27’), Shaheem Shaikh (23’, 55’), Prajot Dhargalkar (25’), Sandeep Hembinoh (38’), Laxhiraj Pawar (39’) and Saheel Majik (79’).
