PANJIM: Counting of votes of all disputed village panchayats was held on Sunday at the respective taluka headquarters.
State Election Commission has declared the results of all 15 disputed wards of 11 panchayats along with the other wards which was held back due to the delayed elections in 15 wards of 11 panchayats.
The 11 panchayats include Anjuna-Caisua, Bastora, Penha-de-Franca, Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim, Merces, Betki-Khandola, Advalpal, Betalbatim, Nuvem, Chandor-Cavorim and Sancoale.
It may be recalled that Bench of Bombay High Court in Goa on May 24 stayed the reservation and delimitation notification issued by the government of Goa for the conduct of panchayat polls which are schedule on June 11.
However, Supreme Court on May 30 stayed the order of High Court following Goa government’s appeal.
Following the stay, SEC approached the HC on May 31 seeking further directions, which directed that elections to the 16 wards in 11 panchayats be held on July 1. Out of 16 wards only 15 wards had gone for the election while one ward member was elected as unopposed.
In Bastora and Sancoale, BJP has got their panel elected while at other places there was a close fight to seeking support of one or two elected members by the ruling party in Goa.
Meanwhile, the Director of Panchayat has said that the election for Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch would be held on July 8 and oath administered on July 10.
