Forum focusing on tackling wide range of consumer complaints

PANJIM: Overcharging LPG cylinders, MRP besides selling expired eatable items are amongst various issues the consumer and civic forum – GOACAN will analyze for the current year. 

A press release issued by the forum states that they have started monitoring consumer complaints during the present lockdown implemented due to COVID-19. In the first phase the GOACAN will monitor complaints on the issues such as overcharging LPG cylinders; overcharging MRP; overcharging on rates fixed by DCSCA; Denial of lockdown special free quota of food grains; sale of expired materials; overcharging on foods; and using scales not registered with the Legal Metrology Department, among others.

GOACAN Convener Roland Martins informed that complaints will be accepted only by email on [email protected]

The GOACAN Consumer Complaints Monitor, he said, have also followed up some other consumer related issues which were highlighted in newspapers and cable channels during the last eight months since the imposition of lockdown. These issues included driving vehicles on the beach; dumping garbage near electricity transformers; lack of maintenance of KTC Bus Stands during the COVID-19 pandemic; monitoring the maintenance & use of gardens parks in Municipal Areas; lack of official email ids and websites for over 70% of the village panchayats in Goa; road safety issues due to lack of proper signage on Speed Limits, etc.
