Vasco: A dilapidated structure in Chicalim, which has become an eyesore and hotspot for anti-social elements, could soon be converted into a multi-facility community hall.
The Attorney of Communidade De Chicalim, Raymond Carvalho, said that the land belongs to the communidade. As per available information, the place, near Chicalim junction, where the old structure is standing will have a community hall, food court and shops. The project is with the Administrator of Communidade in Margao. “The project is expected to come up shortly” he added.
Local panch Yuvaraj Volvoikar confirmed the proposal to have a community hall, which will have ships, indoor sports facility, food court pharmacy etc. He added that the local MLA and Minister will follow up on the project.
Locals lament that the structure is attracting mosquitoes and miscreants alike and passersby’s who urinate and dump garbage. Another local alleged that hand cart owners situated nearby also litter the place with their leftover food waste, which has made the site ugly.
Agnel from Chicalim added that the structure was operational a few years ago but has since turned into an area is frequented by couples and people who want to smoke.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho was unavailable for comment.
