PANJIM: Goa Police finally instituted a departmental inquiry against PI Nilesh Rane and Constable Vinod Naik into serious allegation of sexual abuse made by two rescued victims of prostitution.
Sources disclosed that the decision was taken following an internal inquiry based on the victims’ statement to a government-appointed panel in the protective home that the duo had sexually abused them and extorted money at Calangute.
The West Bengal natives had even alleged that Anjuna police tried to sabotage the case against their colleagues by refusing to identify the police officials in the FIR. The girls were rescued in a raid near a petrol pump at Anjuna in April.
The department had earlier denied the police-prostitution link despite the rescued women alleging police involvement in the racket.
