PANJIM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium, Bambolim on Wednesday. Elections for the two Lok Sabha seats and by-polls to three Assembly constituencies are scheduled on April 23.
The BJP is expecting around 30,000 people for the rally scheduled for 4 pm, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar said. He said the PM’s rally will be a morale booster for all five candidates of the party ahead of the polls.
“The capacity of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium is 10,000 but we are expecting a crowd of 30,000. To accommodate the additional crowd, we will put up screens outside the stadium,” Tendulkar said.
He said BJP’s star campaigners, including Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Smriti Irani, will address meetings in North and South Goa.
The BJP has fielded sitting MPs Shripad Naik from North Goa and Narendra Sawaikar from South Goa. Its candidates for the by-polls are Subhash Shirodkar in Shiroda, Dayanand Sopte in Mandrem and Joshua D’Souza in Mapusa. They are pitted against Congress’ Mahadev Naik, Babi Bagkar and Sudhir Kandolkar respectively.
This would be Modi’s first election rally in Goa since the schedule for the Lok Sabha polls have been announced.
