High Court cancels bail in panch assault case

The Bombay High Court at Goa on Tuesday cancelled bail granted to the accused Rajesh Dessai by the city Fast Track court when he was arrested in connection with deadly attack on panch member of Old Goa panchayat, Vinayak Phadte.
Cancelling the bail granted to Dessai, the High Court has asked him to produce himself before Old Goa police within two days.
The Old Goa police moved for cancellation of bail granted to the accused claiming that fast track court granted his bail application without considering seriousness of the issue.
The Old Goa panch was attacked on the night of February 5 while he was entering his flat at Bom Jesus Residency in Old Goa. Rajesh Naik, the mastermind behind the attack, is a neighbour of Panch Phadte.
The government advocate Carlos Fereira making a case for cancellation of the bail, submitted that police have not been able to seize weapons used in the attack as accused was granted bail when investigation was in the preliminary stage.
He further said there was no delay in filing application for cancellation of the bail granted to the accused.
Suspended police inspector Ashish Shirodkar who then held the charge of Old Goa police station failed to submit hurt certificate while opposing the bail application filed by the accused.
On the other hand Adv Saresh Lotlikar appearing on behalf of the accused submitted that accused has offered co-operation to police on conditions laid down by the city court while granting his bail application. He reported to the police station for ten days, he said and added that there was no need for him to be in custody.
