MARGAO: St Joseph High School, Aquem, Margao beat Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda 6-5 via tiebreaker to clinch the Salcete Taluka Under 17 Boy’s inter school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Manora ground, Raia on Wednesday.
The first half in which both teams started on a sedate note, ended in a goalless draw. Though St Joseph High School, came close on quite a few occasions to take the lead, they failed to convert.
Post resumption, both the teams continued attacking, but the target eluded them. Our Lady of Rosary High School drew first blood in the 47th minute through Sachin Pinto. In a rare lapse , St Joseph High School goalkeeper Selwyn Miranda failed to gather the ball as an alert Sachin Patil followed up, to give Our Lady of Rosary High School, the lead.
Despite being down by a goal, St Joseph High School, were not willing to call it a day. As a matter of fact, they dominated the reaming part of the second half. St Joseph’s equalizer came in the 50th minute when Jaison Fernandes capitalized the chance seeing the Rosary school goalkeeper advance and nicely flicked the ball into the nets.
Earlier Sachin Patil was booked with a yellow for dangerous play by the referee .
With the regulation time ending at 1-1 draw, the tiebreaker was enforced and St Joseph High School, Aquem emerged victorious.
St Joseph High School, scored through Liston Colaco, Selwyn Miranda, Joston Noronha, Maclas Fernandes and Joseph Pereira while only Kevin Araujo, Sachin Patil and Clive Miranda were on target for Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda.
Sister Thereza Rodrigues, Principal of St Joseph High School, Aquem was the chief guest and distributed the certificates in the presence of Faria Baretto, Headmistress of St Joseph High School, Aquem. Earlier Bevyln Colaco e Rodrigues, TSO , Salcete Taluka welcomed the guest and later proposed a vote of thanks.
