PANJIM: The one-man Inquiry Commission probing land grab cases has directed Goa Police to issue notices to the alleged accused persons involved in more than one crime of land grab.

The Commission, headed by retired High Court judge V K Jadhav on March 1, held first hearing in the 44 FIRs, referred to the Commission by Special Investigating Team (SIT). The next date of hearing is fixed on March 20.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, it is been informed that the Commission has directed the police to issue notices to the accused persons involved in more than one crime of land grabbing cases Under Section 8-B of the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1952.
The general public and interested parties are informed to submit their complaints, replies and documents pertaining to their claims for illegal grabbing of land by creating forged documents to the Commission for inquiry.
Till date, the SIT has registered more than 44 FIRs and has arrested 20 people including four government employees. Two prime accuse — Mohammad Suhail and Rajkumar Maithi, have been out on bail in five and four different cases of land grab, respectively.
The ongoing probe has revealed that at least 70 properties worth around Rs 1,000 crore have been sold by using forged documents in North Goa alone.
Last month, Jadhav had inspected around 15 sites that are part of land grab cases in Bardez Taluka. He had also sought case-wise details about the properties and accused, besides other related documents, from the SIT.
In August, the State government had appointed a one-man commission to investigate land grab cases. However, it took him almost six months to start inquiry in January, this year.
