Agasaim Police stops football event at Goa Velha

The Agasaim Police today prevented Friends Circle from going ahead with their all-Goa 3-a-side football tournament near Sauricodde, Goa Velha on the grounds that the SDM, Panjim, had not granted them permission for the use of mike at the venue.
PI Karpe when contacted stated that there were orders from the SDM to stop the event and that these were the instructions issued by the SP, Panjim. He also cited that there were fears of law and order problem.
SP Tony Fernandes, when contacted, stated that the organsiers did not seek permission to use the sound system and that Sec 144 was also in force. He stated that orders to this effect were issued by the SDM.
There have been problems with the organization of football tournaments in Goa Velha as far as Goa Velha Sports Club is concerned, with two identical clubs claiming to represent the same club.
Normally, the day after the famous Santachem Pursao (Procession of Saints), the finals of the tournament entitled London Cup would be played, but due to the dispute, the tournament itself could not be organised.
The organizers of the one-day event, told that they were organising the tournament in a field and that they had nothing to with any of the two Goa Velha clubs. Moreover, we had the permission of the owner of the field to conduct the event, they stated.
