PANJIM: The Cabinet will on Friday take a final call on tabling the Regularisation of Illegal/Unauthorized Structures and Encroachments Bill in the ensuing Budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly scheduled to begin on March 14.
“The Cabinet meeting on Friday will decide whether or not the Bill will be presented in the forthcoming Assembly session,” Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Francis D’Souza said on Thursday.
Until last month, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had stated that the crucial bill that will spell out details on regularization of structures existing before February 28, 2014 would be introduced during the Budget session. Along with this, the government also proposes to bring in an amendment to the Comunidade Act that will allow them to acquire comunidade land for educational institutes. This too will be discussed at the cabinet, sources said.
On the Regularization of Illegal/Unauthorized Structures, the draft of which is ready, the government has been assuring the State to implement it before the 2017 Assembly elections. The legalisation will be based on documentary evidence, however, structures in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas and along the road side will not be covered in the Bill.
