MARGAO: Riding on the popularity wave of Manohar Parrikar-led government and determination to have Narendra Modi as a Prime Minister, BJP’s South Goa Candidate Narendra Sawaikar is expected to take the winning lead in 17 out of 20 State legislative assembly constituencies.
The BJP cadres which has been rallying behind Sawaikar has already completed the first round of the campaigning by visiting each household, while the aggressive last phase of campaigning is on in the constituency.
A close look at all the State legislative assembly constituencies indicates that of the total 20, the BJP and its supporting parties and independents are going to reign in 17 constituencies.
The constituencies like Ponda, Shiroda, Cortalim, Margao, Mormugao, Curchorem, Sanvordem, Sanguem and Canacona which are traditionally party’s bastions are going to support Sawaikar.
The party is also going to break ice in the constituencies like Nuvem and Benaulim due to its alliance with Goa Vikas Party (GVP). Both the GVP legislators are working overtime to ensure victory of Sawaikar in this constituency.
Several Congressmen who have turned against their own party are also a major boost for the party in Vasco and Dabolim constituencies. The BJP support is swelling here with people speaking openly against Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Trinamool Congress candidate Churchill Alemao.
The party has received support from independents like Avertao Furtado from Navelim and Benjamin Silva from Velim constituency which will help it to percolate amongst the Catholic community vote base.
Parrikar government’s work in last two years has been a plus point for the candidate as people have banked their hopes on the party.
